Position (postdoctoral fellow):molecular microbiology Dr. Xiaonan Lu’s Food Safety & Health Engineering Laboratory at UBC invites applications for 1 Postdoctoral Fellowshipposition, with an anticipated start date of September 1 st , 2019. The position is located in the Food, Nutrition and Health (FNH) program in the Faculty of Land and Food Systems (Vancouver campus) (www.foodsafetyengineering.landfood.ubc.ca).
The successful candidate will execute research exploring Campylobacter pathogenesis and ecology, Campylobacter next generation sequencing, and Campylobacter-gut microbiome interaction. In addition, the candidate will have a chance to conduct research work of evaluating the effect of food diet on Campylobacter-associated gut dysfunction. The aforementioned research topics are currently supported by several Canadian funding
agencies. The candidate will work closely with Dr. Xiaonan Lu (Associate Professor in Food Science) and graduate students, and will be involved in collaborative work with different research laboratories on UBC Vancouver campus, BC Children Hospital and Vancouver General Hospital. The appointment will be for 2 years with the possibility of extension for two additional years.
Candidates must have a PhD in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Molecular Biology, or a related field, and preference will be given to those with experience with molecular microbiology, bacterial pathogenesis and gut microbiome. Candidates with demonstrated contributions relating to genome sequencing, transcriptomics, and/or molecular manipulation (e.g., cloning, generation of knockouts, etc.) are encouraged to apply. Candidates are responsible for training graduate students for the basic molecular techniques, such as PCR, qPCR, DNA/RNA extraction, RNA-seq, whole genome sequencing, etc. as well as basic bioinformatics tools.
