As a teacher, I have strived for over a decade to place my students at the forefront of the classroom and revolutionize the learning experience. Through evidence-based teaching methodology, I have fundamentally challenged the old paradigm of the teacher at the head of the classroom and the student, that passive recipient of information, in the background. Gone is lecturing and “teaching to the test.” The students take center stage through reciprocal and whole-class teaching, in addition to other proven methods. My methods equip my students with transferable skills they can carry forward and use throughout their lives. Students are taught to run the classroom, to take responsibility for each other’s work, to lead and to work together, and to take an active interest in the world around them. I continue to reevaluate my methods on a daily basis and adapt as new challenges present themselves.
