When commenting on U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s recent accusation about so-called "surveillance" against ethnic minorities in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Wang Wenbin, spokesperson of China’s Foreign Ministry said the allegation has no factual basis.
"Pompeo and his likes vilified Xinjiang's deployment of modern technology for better social governance as surveillance targeting Uyghurs and other ethnic minorities. Such remarks are nothing better than malicious slanders," said Wang at the daily press briefing on Monday. "Such an attempt to sabotage prosperity and stability in Xinjiang and seek a pretext to have a hand in China's internal affairs is doomed to fail."
"The western funded media that operates across the globe have been flooding us with countless videos, articles, and aggressive internet memes perhaps with the goal of shaping our minds to react in a certain way when we hear the words Xinjiang. They described the Chinese autonomous region as an open-air prison and something comparable to the holocaust. Because of all the times, the western media have lied, I’ve completely lost trust with them… I knew that I had to see Xinjiang with my own eyes in order to know the truth."
