This week, we are going to be comparing the difference between public school and private school. Since I go to a public school, I invited one of my friend that goes to a private school to talk to you guys. Please welcome Jiahan!
Hey, guys, I’m Jiahan and I go to a private school that is ranked top 5 in Canada.
What is the difference anyway? I don’t even know, so let’s get started!
The main difference between a private and public school is how they are funded. Private schools are not government funded and rely on other means of funding. This means that tuition can be higher for a private school than a public one.
So first we are going to compare how the school looks.
George street middle school
Public school: The school I go to is called George street middle school and it was built in the 1700’ so it’s very old. The bricks on the outside will actually like shake if you punch or kick it too hard. the inside is also very old, it said Junior high instead of middle school.
Rothesay Netherwood
Private school: In our school, Rothesay Netherwood, there are a total of 13 buildings and 2 main school buildings. The school was founded in 1877 and the dining hall and gym are newly built.
Now we are going to compare the dress code:
In George street middle school, we don’t have any dress code at all. The only thing we have is a school color t-shirt that you are supposed to wear on school spirit day.
As like other private schools, there is a uniform, on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday you wear what I call number 2 dress on Wednesday you wear hoodies and on Friday is the number one dress. a more formal dress.
Now the food：
In George, we have an option of bringing your own lunch or buying it at the cafeteria. They just sell different type of pizzas and a special meal for the day, also perogies and fries. There is juice, bubbly, milk and water to drink.
In RNS the meals are different every day, on Mondays, it’s usually pasta or noodles in the dining hall there is a soup bar, a snack bar, a bread bar, and a salad bar. You a choice if you want to come for breakfast or dinner, you can even bring your parents to eat for free because the money is already in your tuition
the classes are also different：
At George, we normally have 2 to 4 class all doing gym at the same time. there is 10 class in each grade and there are about 25 students in each class.so there is a lot of students but fewer teachers and rooms.
There are 5 classes each day and there are 2 terms in the school time so during that time in each term you can choose an art thing the choices are music, art, drama, engineering. Which means you don't have to choose music or art if you want to.
activities:
Our school’s main activities are SPARK which I already explained in the very first article I made. Besides that, it’s just downtown where you get to buy lunch in a restaurant you like with your friends.
Because there are borders there are activities every weekend from escape rooms to paintball fights. Mainly the activities are of campus so you have signed up to go to one and all the activities are free.
